It was back in 1973 when three colleagues of mine and I established Nidec with the goal of "becoming the world's No.1!" I had been researching small precision motors ever since my school days and I made this the focus of the company. This was how Nidec started, a company comprised of just four engineers including myself.
At first, we had no capital, not even our own plant. Our only assets were our determination to be the world's No.1, and our proprietary, original technology. We were literally starting with no material assets. But we firmly believed that we could lead our industry if we could make products that had features and performance unlike those of our competitors.
Then, in 1979, we became the first company in the world to successfully commercialize a direct drive spindle motor for HDDs that used a brushless DC motor. Many said that had it not been for this product, computers could not have been miniaturized to the degree that they were. This set us up as a fully-fledged player in world markets for computers and other products.
We followed this up with a series of inimitable products that were either the first of their kind, or the smallest of their kind, in the world.
Today, we have expanded our sphere of products from small precision to supersized motors of all kinds, and from motor peripherals to application products. These key components are widely used not only in IT products but also in a wide range of fields including home appliances, automobiles, office equipment, industrial equipment, and environmental energy equipment.
As we strive to become the "world's No.1 comprehensive motor manufacturer", the entire Nidec Group will join forces to meet the needs and expectation of our worldwide customers.
We ask for your continued cooperation and good faith in a quest that is sure to benefit us all.
