The employee’s cafeteria offers a “special donation dish” program, in which 20 yen out of each payment for a certain lunch dish will be donated to a charity organization, Kyoto Model Forest Association. Also, inside the company’s head office building, a kiosk run by Nidec Global Service Corporation holds a “donation day,” where part of the sales from private-brand products is donated to the aforementioned charity organization.

In addition, from FY2014 to FY2017, Nidec employees joined the Kyoto CSR Network* to participate in the “Gion Festival Gomi Zero Dai-sakusen,” a campaign hosted by an eponymous general incorporated association, to reduce the amount of flammable waste disposed and environmental load at Kyoto’s Gion Festival. A massive amount of trash of disposable plates and utensils, etc., has been a big headache at Kyoto’s Gion Festival, an annual event crowded with numerous domestic and overseas tourists. At this festival, Nidec employees work as volunteers to ask tourists to sort trash and walk to collect trash to reduce its amount. With the participation of NIDEC ADVANCE TECHNOLOGY employees, FY2017 saw a record number of 20 Nidec employees participating in this volunteer effort.

Merchandize selling support for a facility for people with disabilities

Every month, people from a local facility visit the kiosk (run by Nidec Global Service Corporation) in Nidec Corporation’s head office and Central Technical Laboratory building, and sell bread, cookies, and other merchandize made by people with intellectual challenges who are seeking employment opportunities. This activity, which started in July 2012, is very popular among employees, is held on a continuing basis. Other sites inside and outside Japan provide similar support for people with disabilities to sell merchandise.

Charity sales of Christmas goods made in a workshop

Nidec Motors & Actuators (Germany) has been making donations to a local facility for people with disabilities during the Christmas period since 2015. In a workshop the company holds for engineering interns in the southern city of Bietigheim, the interns make Christmas goods. The interns, who hope to become mechanics, mechanical and electrical engineers, or drawing engineers in the future, process metal and make such goods as reindeer-shaped decorations, and sell them at a Christmas market or in the company’s employee cafeteria. The proceeds from selling these goods are combined with the company’s donation, and given to “Support for People in Need,” a fundraising project hosted by a Bietigheim newspaper company. The donated money is used to support those living in a facility for people with disabilities, located near the company site.
