The NIDEC OKK machines, specifically the horizontal four and five-axis models from the HMC/HMX series, have formed the backbone of VOVU’s production for many years.

They are used for tasks where stability and precision are non-negotiable. Kolman cites the example of drilling holes in manifolds up to 600 mm deep with a diameter of 245 mm. “For applications like these, where the bore must remain perfectly straight over the entire length, is machine stability essential. In addition to stability and the resulting accuracy, we are also very pleased with the productivity and reliability of NIDEC OKK machines. We run these machines for between 5,000 and 7,000 hours a year. Their performance and uptime are excellent,” Mr. Kolman says.

VOVU Machining has automated NIDEC OKK machines using an in-house developed pallet automation system. This solution is fully tailored to the horizontal configuration of the NIDEC OKK machines and provides a stable foundation for unmanned production.

An important element in VOVU’s success is its advanced automation.

More than 10 years ago, the company developed its own pallet automation system, which today supplies workpieces to seven NIDEC OKK machines. The system is equipped with a Fanuc robot and accommodates 60 pallets. By standardizing wherever possible, pallets can be easily exchanged between different production cells. This increases the overall reliability of the process.
