Synchronous speed

Synchronous speed means the rotational speed of a revolving field. It is an important term when we discuss the theory and practice of induction motors and synchronous motors (both are rotating magnetic-field AC motors). A synchronous motor, such as a hysteresis synchronous motor, is intended to rotate at a synchronous speed regardless of the nature of the load. Asynchronous motors, such as squirrel-cage type induction motors and eddy current motors, rotate at lower than synchronous speeds depending on the nature of the load.
