Spindle motor
The term spindle motor can either refer to the motor used to drive the spindle of a machine tool or one that turns the hard disk, used for memory storage. Squirrel-cage induction motors are often used for the former, while brushless DC motors with fluid dynamic bearings are commonly used for the latter. The figure below shows the cross-section construction of an example of the latter.
