Commutation
In a brushed or brushless DC machine, commutation refers to switching the current direction in each coil (or phase winding in the latter type) as the rotor revolves as seen in fig.(a). In an SR machine commutation refers to switching a current from one phase winding to another as shown in figs.(b) and (c) .
