Nidec’s FDB Motors to be Used in Laser Position Sensor for
Groundbreaking VR (Virtual Reality) System
Nidec Corporation (NYSE: NJ) (the “Company”) today announced that it has completed the development of an FDB motor for the laser position sensor of the Vive Virtual Reality System (http://www.htcvr.com/) planned to be launched this spring (2016) by HTC (http://www.htc.com/).
The motor makes use of Nidec’s advanced FDB (Fluid Dynamic Bearing) technology, originally developed for HDD spindle motors, to achieve high rotational precision, long life and low vibration. These features combine to provide the performance necessary to accurately map the surroundings of the user and deliver the ‘Room-Scale’ VR experience of the HTC Vive.
The Vive Pre Virtual Reality System equipped with the above mentioned motor is on display at 2016 International CES currently held in Las Vegas, Nevada, U.S.A. between January 6 and January 9, 2016 (US time).
