Environmental Management Promotion System

The Nidec Group’s environmental management promotion system

Based on Nidec Corporation’s environmental policy, the Nidec Group promotes actions to reduce environmental load and prevent global warming in designing, developing, and producing motors, motor-related products, and solutions that are part of our business.

As a first step, we set 15 themes as critical issues (materiality), which we must tackle preferentially in fulfilling our mission, “We contribute to the Earth by producing the highest quality motors in the world,” and constantly growing our corporate value. In the “Environment” category among them, we uphold the materiality of “sustainable contribution to the global environment,” addressing the three themes of “Realize a carbon-free society,” “Manage waste and hazardous waste,” and “Handle water risks.”
As a system to confirm that these individual activities are implemented effectively, we regularly hold a Sustainability Promotion Meeting , chaired by our company’s President.

Furthermore, there are the following two working groups under the Sustainability Promotion Meeting for the entire Nidec Group to promote activities under individual environmental themes:

1. (1) Environmental Management Working Groups
   This working group discusses and examines issues with and solutions to environmental management in general. In particular, the working group checks progress on environmental load reduction-related activities such as those to reduce the use of water and resources, and promotes improvement actions for more environmentally friendly activities. Energy-related themes are handled by Climate change Working Groups.
2. (2) Climate Change Working Groups
   This working group shares issues with, solutions to, and successful cases of, energy-saving actions and the introduction of renewable energies, and promotes CO₂ emissions reduction measures that go across all business departments.

Details of the issues discussed in Sustainability Promotion Meeting are submitted to Sustainability Committee, an organ with a majority of Outside Members of Nidec Corporation’s Board of Directors. This Committee confirms the overviews of and resolutions to individual reports, and provides supervision in an objective and expert manner. In addition, reports to the Sustainability Committee are submitted to the Board of Directors by the Committee’s chair.
