Eddy current, Eddy current loss

Current generated by electromagnetic induction when a magnetic field changes as it passes in insulated laminated-steel sheets in the direction as shown below. The current path resembles an eddy, hence the name. These currents result in Joule loss in the steel sheet. This is called eddy-current loss, which is a type of iron loss. Thin laminations must be used to reduce eddy-current loss.
