Unipolar drive

In a construction where there are three mechanical poles (teeth) and the coil for each pole (tooth) can carry an electric current in one direction only when the associated transistor is turned on. The magnetic pole is South when conducting in this setup. If the coil terminals are changed, the magnetic polarity will be North. Either case is referred to as a unipolar drive.
