Variable speed drive

Technology used to drive a motor in a certain wide speed range. Many methods have been devised, but one method widely used for electric vehicles and hybrid vehicles is that of using permanent magnets and salient-polar torque in combination, and such a motor is called permanent-magnet and variable-reluctance synchronous motor.
This motor not only exploits the nature of the torque from the permanent magnet and the advantages of the SR motor (synchronous reluctance motor or switched reluctance motor), but utilizes both synergies as well.
The figure shows a brushed DC motor, but actually it is converted to a AC brushless type.
