Nidec Corporation (TSE: 6594; OTC US: NJDCY) (the “Company”) today announced that it has executed a memorandum of understanding (the “MOU”) on Tuesday, May 28 with Taiwan’s Metal Industries Research & Development Centre (the “MIRDC”) for collaboration in the technological development, manufacturing, application, etc. of high-efficiency motor system-related products.


With the execution of this MOU, the MIRDC intends to achieve the further improvement and application for products of Nidec’s high-efficiency motor called SynRATM (Synchronous Reluctance Motor with Aluminum Cage Rotor), to eventually meet the Taiwanese government’s policy of achieving net-zero CO2 emissions.  To pursue this goal, the MIRDC plans to first introduce SynRATM to pump motors for water treatment facilities and other devices related to energy-efficient industrial motors, and later to other areas where industrial motors are used.

Going forward, not only will the MIRDC will collaborate with Nidec to promote the application of SynRATM in Taiwan’s industries, it will also work with the Taiwan Motor Industrial Association (the “TIMA”), which the MIRDC organizes, to promote the construction of production lines for demonstration, and the introduction of its achievements to the TIMA’s members and Taiwanese motor-using companies.  The MIRDC also intends to form an alliance that integrates the business chain of Taiwan’s industrial suppliers with applied equipment developers, to build high-efficiency operating machines and equipment to reach its electricity-saving objectives.

With this collaboration with the MIRDC, Nidec will stay committed to enhancing SynRATM’s compact-size and low-cost features and its high-efficiency performance, to propose revolutionary solutions that contribute to curbing the Earth’s environmental load.
