Nidec Center for Industrial Science
Nidec Center for Industrial Science (NCIS) is a facility that strengthens the manufacturing foundation to foster the Nidec Group’s growth, and promotes the creation of technologies to contribute to the world via the facility’s academia-institute-corporation network.
Roles and functions
NCIS, a facility that strengthens the manufacturing foundation to foster the Nidec Group’s growth, and promotes the creation of technologies to contribute to the world via its academia-institute-corporation networks, promotes advanced research and development of various cutting-edge element technologies, ranging from image processing, acoustic analysis, to AI technology, mechanism, mechatronics, machining, molding, materials, evaluation, assembly, production process, and many other types of production technology.
In addition to conducting its own independent research, NCIS researches jointly with Nidec Group companies and Business Units, and intends to become the group’s core production technology site through collaboration with development design engineers concerned. NCIS also utilizes its wide network and promotes industry-academia alliance-based open innovations to create innovative technologies at a fast pace.
Activities and achievements
Research and development of state-of-the-art element technologies
While innovating and advancing production technologies, NCIS researches and develops advanced element technologies for the Nidec Group’s new products and systems. Using cutting-edge equipment, NCIS aims to become a world-class production technology development center.
Fast research and development via open innovation
Based on its academia-institute-corporation network, NCIS promotes open innovation to create state-of-the-art technologies.
Wall-less shared office
NCIS’s office space is wall-less and its members can work at any desk. Without boundaries between organizations or companies, they can think freely and creatively to come up with new ideas.
R&D equipment and facilities
This large open space is for NCIS members to “think out of the box” to create ideas for the future in their R&D activities.
This laboratory, intended for mechanical and electric verifications in research and development, performs, among others, design, prototyping, experiments, verification, and design reviews.
This scanner, which comprises high-output and high-definition types, can measure various objects ranging from large motors to tooling (molding) units to micro-mini resin components.
This microscope can analyze, among other things, the crystal orientation, distortion, and stress of metal textures, which are difficult to measure with conventional microscope.
